After news about the addition of a Monsters Inc. Land in Hollywood Studios was announced at this year’s D23 Conference, there has been a lot of speculation about where Monstropolis and its new attractions would go.
Well, Disney has officially put the rumors to bed by announcing that Monsters Inc. will be taking over Muppets Courtyard and replacing the beloved Muppet Vision 3D attraction. The 3D theater show — featuring Kermit, Miss Piggy, Gonzo and the gang — was the last project that Jim Henson worked on before he died in 1990.
The Monsters Inc. area of Hollywood Studios will include shops, restaurants, and a suspended “door” roller coaster that takes you into the Monsters Inc. factory. “You’ll go into the factory and experience the first suspended coaster ever in a Disney park,” said Disney Experiences Chairman Josh D’Amaro. “Remember in the movie how those claws grab the doors and hoist them up into the air to take them away? We’re doing that, too. And you’re going along for the ride.”

But this isn’t the only major Muppet-focused change coming to Hollywood Studios. Disney also announced that the Muppets will be taking over the Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, giving Henson’s iconic characters their very first ride in the Disney parks. This does, however, mean that Aerosmith will no longer be part of the Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, as far as we know. The announcement says that the Muppets “will be teaming up with some of music’s biggest stars for a rockin’ music festival.”
Muppets Vision 3D Closing Date Announced
Disney Parks announced that the last day to experience Muppets Vision 3D at Hollywood Studios will be June 7, 2025. It will officially be closed for good on June 8.
Muppets fans should also prepare for restaurant closures in Muppet Courtyard in spring of 2025. PizzeRizzo, the quick-service pizza restaurant located adjacent to the theater show, will also close and cease operations on June 8. And Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano, an Italian-themed table-service restaurant, will close to guests earlier on May 11, 2025.
It is expected that work on bringing Monstropolis to life will begin this year, with a possible projected opening at some point in 2027.
